The U.S. dollar strengthened in early European trade on Thursday as negotiations to resolve the debt ceiling standoff in Washington remained inconclusive, while the upcoming appearances of more Federal Reserve officials added to the currency's gains.
At 14:55 (GMT+8), the dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of six other currencies, rose 0.1% to 102.845, nearing a seven-week high.
