Nasdaq’s ISE has filed to quadruple the trading limits on BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) options—from 250,000 to 1,000,000 contracts, placing IBIT in the same tier as Apple, Nvidia, and SPY.
The exchange argues current limits are “restrictive” and hinder institutional hedging, volatility strategies, and demand for structured products linked to Bitcoin.
Raising the limit is expected to:
- Boost liquidity, depth, and tighter spreads
- Enable larger institutional allocation and hedging flows
- Support greater capital efficiency for funds
- Shift usage from opaque OTC markets into regulated US exchanges
The proposal also seeks zero position limits for physically delivered FLEX options, commonly used for large bespoke trades.
IBIT’s liquidity is cited as justification:
- $86.2B market cap
- 44.6M average daily volume
- Now the largest Bitcoin options market globally by open interest (Bloomberg).
SEC comments are open until Dec 17, 2025.
