Hong Kong's markets stayed open despite a Typhoon warning, marking the first time since the city revised its rules to allow trading during extreme weather conditions. Mainland China's CSI 300 plummeted 1.73%, closing at 4,039.62. In contrast, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was a rare exception, rising 0.37% to finish at 8,224, supported by positive jobless data. Japan's Nikkei 225 dropped 0.48%, reversing earlier gains to end at 38,535.70, while the Topix fell 0.27%, closing at 2,701.22. US In the U.S. overnight, both the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended near flat after the inflation report was released. The S&P 500 edged up by 0.02%, closing at 5,985.38, while the Dow gained 47.21 points, or 0.11%, finishing at 43,958.19. The Nasdaq Composite, however, dropped 0.26%, closing at 19,230.74. Commodity Gold prices dropped to a two-month low on Thursday, weighed down by a strong rally in the dollar, although traders remain optimistic about a potential rate cut in December following the latest U.S. economic data. Spot gold fell 0.3% to $2,565.89 per ounce, its lowest level since September 12. U.S. gold futures declined 0.6%, settling at $2,571.20. Crude oil futures also slipped on Thursday, with the U.S. benchmark trading below $69 per barrel, amid expectations of a large supply surplus in 2025.
